Due to this rule, only 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be allowed to be in the main dressing room of the team during the match and participate in strategic discussions, but he will have to use a separate dressing room while changing clothes before or after the match. This separate arrangement will be made for them on all the five grounds of England. However, it is not completely clear whether this rule will also be applicable in the two T20 matches to be held in Ireland just before the England tour.

For example, English football club Arsenal’s young player Max Dowman had to use a separate changing room from his senior teammates until he turned 16 in December last year. On this sensitive issue, the ECB clarified in a conversation with the Guardian that it is like an ICC event, where their own security protocols and jurisdiction apply. The ECB’s ‘Safe Hands’ policy will also remain in effect at all times. The cricket regulator is in constant touch with the Team Liaison Officer of the Indian team so that all expectations regarding player safety and requirements in the UK are met. Along with this, the County Safeguarding Officers of each venue are also assessing the security risks in collaboration with the Indian TLOs to ensure that the rules are fully followed.

His parents will remain like shadows with Vaibhav.

ECB said that usually players’ parents are not allowed to stay with the team, but keeping in mind Vaibhav’s age, the rules have been relaxed this time. His parents will stay in the same hotel where the team will stay, the entire expense of which will be borne by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia had already made it clear that the board will bear the entire travel and stay expenses of Vaibhav’s parents for his safety and mental comfort. This has also given assurance to the security officials that the young player will continue to get full support from the family.

This is not the first time that Vaibhav is becoming a part of the dressing room of a senior team. Earlier, he has been a part of the dressing room of his state team in domestic cricket, Rajasthan Royals in IPL and most recently in the men’s dressing room of ‘India A’ during the tri-series in Sri Lanka. But the safety standards at the international level are much more stringent. If Vaibhav gets a chance to play even a single T20 match against Ireland or England on this tour, he will write a new golden chapter in the history of Indian cricket. He will become the youngest male cricketer to make his international debut for India. By doing this, he will break the historical record of the great batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who played his first match for India at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
