Vaibhav is worth Rs 35 crore, Pant faces big loss in IPL, understand rating-adjusted value
Last Updated:
On one hand, Rishabh Pant, who captained Lucknow Super Giants, has suddenly returned to Delhi Capitals for ₹ 15 crore from Rs 27 crore after the Indian Premier League 2026. At the same time, there is a huge increase in the price of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has shown explosive performance for Rajasthan Royals.
Rishabh Pant faces big loss in IPL deal, demand for Vaibhav Suryavanshi increases
New Delhi. Rishabh Pant’s return to Delhi Capitals is not the only big transfer after IPL 2026. This is also a clear indication that the IPL market has now started improving itself. Pant was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. This was the most expensive bid in IPL history. After two seasons, he has now returned to Delhi Capitals for ₹15 crore. A straight cut of ₹12 crore on one of India’s biggest cricket names. This can be called “homecoming”. Pant has a deep connection with Delhi. He played 9 seasons for the franchise and also captained it.
The price of ₹15 crore is not low, but it is a much more reasonable cricketing number than ₹27 crore. Our economic model had already pointed out this gap. At ₹27 crore, Pant’s rating-adjusted value came to ₹14.28 crore. That means overpay of approximately ₹ 12.72 crore. Now the real market has reduced them by ₹12 crore. That is, the improvement that took place in the IPL market is almost the same as what our model had already shown. Pant’s new price of ₹15 crore now sits just ₹0.72 crore above his modeled value. Here not only has the player been transferred, here his price has been “fixed”.
Why is Pant’s price cut justified?
Rishabh Pant’s batting statistics of 2026 show why it was necessary for his price to come down. He scored 312 runs in 14 matches, the strike rate was 138.05, and the highest score was 68. These are not bad figures, but not ₹27 crore figures either. Pant could not give returns to the franchise on such a huge amount. His season was ranked 39th in the impact chart. His final impact score was 905.33 and batting score was 320.13. These are not failure figures but the problem was their cost.
At ₹27 crore, he was taking on the financial responsibility of a superstar who could define the entire tournament. In fact, his season looked like that of a strong, high-value Indian player, and not the most expensive player in IPL history. That is why the new value of ₹ 15 crore seems right. Pant worth ₹15 crore is still expensive. If Pant’s improved value shows that even big names will have to respond with performance, then Vaibhav Suryavanshi stands at the completely opposite end. Pant was overpriced and brought down. Vaibhav is underpriced and by the same logic he needs the biggest “upward” correction in the league.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s case is opposite to Pant’s
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s IPL 2026 season was not just good, it was amazing. Rajasthan Royals bought him for ₹1.10 crore. At this price he got 776 runs in 16 matches, average was 48.50 and strike rate was 237.31. He hit 1 century, 5 half-centuries, 63 fours and 72 sixes. His highest score was 103. This was one of the most explosive seasons in IPL history.
Vaibhav made 135 boundaries including 63 fours and 72 sixes. He scored 432 runs with only sixes. He not only scored fast runs, but also changed the scoring economy of the matches. A batsman who plays the entire season at a strike rate of 237.31 does not add the slightest value. He changes the powerplay strategy. Bowling forces changes, reduces risks and gives match-winning momentum to your team before the opposition can recover.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s value is ₹35 crore
Vaibhav’s current price is ₹1.10 crore, while the rating-adjusted value is ₹34.97 crore. That means Rajasthan Royals got a “surplus” of ₹ 33.87 crore on just one player. Vaibhav stood third in total season profit and first among underpaid overperformers. He was at fifth place in the overall value ranking. Vaibhav stood second in the total impact chart and first in the batting impact chart. His final impact score was 2490.35 and batting score was 833.27. Pant’s final impact score was 905.33 and batting score was 320.13. That means Vaibhav’s total impact was approximately 2.75 times that of Pant and his batting impact was approximately 2.60 times.
