Harbhajan Singh on Vaibhav and Mhatre: According to veteran cricketer Harbhajan Singh, young batsmen like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre will need to have the right mindset for Test cricket and they can consider Yashasvi Jaiswal as their role model who is India’s best player in all formats because he has the right technique for all formats.

Mumbai: If Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre want to move forward, they will have to learn from Yashasvi Jaiswal. It is not we but Harbhajan Singh who is saying this. Harbhajan did not hesitate at all in calling Jaiswal the best batsman of the next generation. Bhajji says that Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre will have to work hard to become Test players.
In a program of ‘Legends Club’ organized on the occasion of Sachin Tendulkar’s 53rd birthday, Harbhajan said, ‘They (upcoming batsmen) will have to make their own place and perform so well that their claim to be included in the Test cricket team becomes stronger.’
If you send him to England for the first tour, where the ball will swing, it would not be wise. If we want him to play Test cricket, we have to groom him.
Harbhajan said that India will have to groom players like Suryavanshi in the right way to prepare them for Test cricket. He said, ‘Eventually they will learn, even if they have to face ups and downs. If a 15 year old boy can hit the ball hard, he can also defend it. It’s all a matter of thinking. If you give him a chance, he will adapt himself to that environment.
The former Indian spinner said that it is very important to have better pitches for Test cricket in India, which will not only increase the confidence of the batsmen but will also mean that the spinners will not get wickets easily. He said, ‘Test cricket should be given priority because that is where you get the best cricket and the best cricketers. You get to see the toughest competition in Test cricket because it lasts for five days and the challenge is different every day.
