Unwanted T20I Record: The date of 26 June 2026 has been recorded forever in the history of Indian cricket. Something happened on this day which put all the fans to shame. Both men’s and women’s teams lost in T20 International.
India’s shameful T20I record, men’s and women’s team lost on the same day
New Delhi. June 28, 2026 has become a day never to be remembered for the cricket fans of India. The Indian team suffered not one but two embarrassing defeats within a span of a few hours. Both the Indian men’s and women’s teams lost their respective T20I matches. This is only the third time that both the senior teams had to face defeat in the T20 format on the same day. Ireland made a clean sweep of the team led by Shreyas Iyer. Whereas Harmanpreet Kaur’s team had to be eliminated from the T20 World Cup after losing to Australia.
On Sunday, when fans were hoping to celebrate Super Sunday, they got an unforgettable pain. This happened only for the third time in the history of Indian cricket. The first two occasions came on the New Zealand tour in 2019. Now Sunday’s results added another date to this unwanted list. This time the defeat was more stinging because the men’s team lost a historic series against Ireland. At the same time, the women’s team’s dream of winning the T20 title after winning the ODI World Cup was shattered.
Ireland created history
The team captained by Shreyas Iyer, who snatched the series from India, was defeated by Ireland by 1 run in the second T20I. Chasing the target of 155 runs, India had a very bad start and the score became 19/3. After this, Tilak Verma gave hope by scoring a fighting half-century, but in the last over the team fell just short of the target. This is Ireland’s first bilateral series win against India in any format. Jai Mundra, who bowled brilliantly in two matches, was chosen Player of the Series.
Australia broke India’s dream
Harmanpreet Kaur’s team suffered a big blow to Australia. Batting first, India scored 170/4. Captain Harmanpreet took the team to this score with an unbeaten half-century. In response, Australia showed the biggest successful run chase in Women’s T20 World Cup history. Thanks to Ellis Perry’s steady unbeaten innings and Ash Gardner’s stormy batting, Australia won the match by 6 wickets. With this defeat, India’s dream of reaching the semi-finals was shattered.
When did this happen before?
Interestingly, before this, both the Indian teams had lost T20I on the same day only on one foreign tour. Against New Zealand in February 2019 On 6 February 2019, the men’s team captained by Rohit Sharma lost the first T20I against New Zealand in Wellington. On the same day, Harmanpreet Kaur’s women’s team also lost the first WT20I match against the White Ferns. This was the first day in Indian cricket history when both the senior teams lost together in T20I.
Exactly 4 days later, on 10 February 2019, this scene was seen again. The men’s team lost the third T20I in Hamilton and lost the series 2-1. The women’s team also lost the third WT20I and New Zealand gave them a clean sweep 3-0. After about 7 years, 28th June 2026 has also been included in the same unwanted list.
