New Delhi: Due to the excellent all-round performance of Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar, India defeated England by 6 wickets in the first match of the three-match ODI series. The match was played at Edgbaston, Birmingham. In the match, England captain Harry Brook decided to bat first after winning the toss. Coming to bat first, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethall made a strong start for England and added 61 runs for the first wicket. It seemed that England would score a big score in the match, but everything changed after the first wicket.
Actually, after the first wicket, the England team lost its 5 wickets in just 19 runs. In such a situation, within no time England’s score became 5 wickets for 80 runs and this proved to be the biggest turning point for Team India. After this, Akshar did not waste any time in dismantling England’s lower order. In this way Akshar got 4 wickets.
After bowling, Akshar showed his strength in batting also.
After bundling out England’s innings for 258 runs, when Team India came out to bat, the start was not good. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were out cheaply. After this the responsibility fell on captain Shubhman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, but Iyer left Gill after scoring 35 runs. During this time, Gill also retired hurt after scoring 80 runs.
The situation became difficult with Gill’s departure as KL Rahul walked out after scoring only 1 run. Here, England had a great chance to make a comeback in the match, but once again Axar Patel became the call for the British. After wreaking havoc in bowling, Akshar played an unbeaten inning of 57 runs in 52 balls. During this, he made an unbeaten partnership of 102 runs with Washington Sundar, due to which Team India won the match by scoring 262 runs in 45.2 overs.
