Former England captain Michael Vaughan has advocated giving Vaibhav Suryavanshi a chance to debut in the Indian team. He said, “When will he debut for the Indian team? I am watching and maybe we are thinking a little ahead. This is just the first innings of the IPL, but after a few months there is a white ball tour of England. If I was in Indian cricket, I would have taken him on that tour.

Told Agarkar to prepare Vaibhav Suryavanshi for England tour – Vaughan's suggestion
New Delhi. Indian cricket's young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi played another explosive innings. In the first match of the Indian Premier League 2026, the Rajasthan Royals opener created havoc against Chennai Super Kings. 15 year old Suryavanshi played a explosive inning of 52 runs in 17 balls. After this, former England captain Michael Vaughan said that Suryavanshi grabbed more headlines than his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal. Vaughan wants Vaibhav Suryavanshi to be included in the senior Indian men's team soon.
The last 12 months have been great for Suryavanshi, in which he has scored a lot of runs. Not only IPL, Suryavanshi has also made a name for herself in Under-19 cricket. He has scored centuries in England, Australia and South Africa. In the final against England, he scored 175 runs in 80 balls and hit 15 sixes and 15 fours and single-handedly led India to win the Under-19 World Cup.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit fifty in 15 balls.
Last year, Suryavanshi made his presence felt on the big stage by scoring a century in 35 balls in the IPL against Gujarat Titans. Everyone thought that teams would catch him in the second season. But in the very first match of IPL 2026, Suryavanshi surprised everyone with his excellent game. Vaughan believes that even if Suryavanshi does not make it to the playing eleven for the upcoming white ball tour of England, he should still be included in the team for the three T20 matches. This will give them the experience of living with senior players and understanding the environment.
Vaughan said on Cricbuzz, “When will he debut for the Indian team? I am watching and maybe we are thinking a little ahead. This is just the first innings of the IPL, but there is a white ball tour of England in a few months. If I were in Indian cricket, I would take him on that tour. It is not necessary that he replaces the players playing in the team right now, but it is important to bring him into the environment of the Indian team. Bring him with the team, if he gets a chance to play one or two matches, then great, but he Take him on a tour? Can he be taken on a tour at the age of 15?”
He further said, “I would have given him some experience with the Indian team. It is not necessary that he joins the team straight away, but it will be good to have him with the team. He is good enough to play, I have no doubt about that.”
