In the last seven T20 matches played against Ireland and England, the Indian vice-captain has scored only 178 runs and his strike rate has been around 132. Questions are constantly being raised regarding his batting. However, he scored 53 runs in 25 balls in the last T20 in Southampton. Before the upcoming T20 series against Zimbabwe, Tilak has openly expressed his views on this. He clearly said that one has to play according to the needs of the team.

‘I will play accordingly’
Tilak said, ‘In this format you have to bat in different orders and especially in such conditions it is not easy. Also, I always say that I will do whatever is necessary for the team. If I have to score runs while waiting for the team, I will play accordingly. If I have to hit, I hit and play. He said, ‘So if we look at the condition of the team at that time, from Ireland to England, four or five wickets always fell in the power play. So it was not wise to go there and hit and get out.

‘Can hit the first ball’
Tilak wants to play aggressively when he comes on the field. But he insisted that sometimes he needed to show some wisdom. He said, ‘I always have in my mind that I can hit the first ball after coming to the crease, but at the same time I am playing for the country, so there are a lot of responsibilities.’ Tilak said, ‘When the post of vice-captain is attached to your name, the team must have given it to me thoughtfully. Tilak Verma batted at a strike rate of 131.85 in 7 T20 International matches against Ireland and England on the recently concluded UK tour. He scored 178 runs in 135 balls. His performance throughout the tour was full of ups and downs, but in the last T20 played against England in Southampton, he played an explosive inning of 53 runs in just 25 balls, in which his strike rate was 212.00. Tilak will now have to make a splash with his batting in three T20 matches against Zimbabwe.
