In the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Sanju Samson had shown a tremendous performance for Team India in the knockout. Due to Sanju’s strong performance, Team India won the title for the second consecutive time. This is the reason why despite failing in the tour of Ireland and the first match of the T20 series against England, the selectors are expressing confidence in Sanju.

Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Suryavanshi

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is currently on a tour of England for a series of five T20 and three ODI matches. The first match of the T20 series was canceled due to rain. In this match, everyone expected that 15 year old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi would get a chance to debut, but it did not happen. Vaibhav was also in Team India’s squad against Ireland, but he had to sit on the bench in both the T20 matches because Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings. However, Sanju Samson has failed in three consecutive matches while opening. Sanju could score only 5 runs in two matches against Ireland, while he scored only 1 run in the canceled match against England.

In such a situation, after Sanju failing in three consecutive matches, questions are being raised on him and the demand to start the innings with Vaibhav Suryavanshi in his place has intensified. But some cricket experts and former cricketers believe that despite failing in three matches, confidence should be shown in Sanju Samson. But the question here is why is there talk of giving Sanju a chance despite his failure?

Sanju shone in T20 World Cup and IPL

There is no doubt that Sanju Samson is a champion player. Recently, he showed a strong performance for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 and in the same year, he helped Team India win the title by batting brilliantly in three knockout matches of the T20 World Cup. This is the reason that despite failing on the England tour, Sanju Samson is not being dropped from the playing eleven, due to which the debut of Vaibhav Suryavanshi is being delayed.

Let us tell you that in the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson was the first to take Team India to the semi-finals by playing an unbeaten inning of 97 runs in 50 balls in the virtual quarter-final match against West Indies. After this, he played an inning of 89 runs in 42 balls against England in the semi-finals, due to which the team reached the final. In the final match, Sanju once again scored 89 runs in 46 balls against New Zealand, due to which Team India became the champion. Because of these three innings of Sanju, the selectors are continuously giving him chances.
