Match snatched in power play itself
While chasing the target of 147 runs, RCB knew that the pitch was slow and scoring runs would not be easy. In such a situation, Virat Kohli adopted a different strategy. Sensing the condition of the pitch, he took full advantage of the power play. Kohli pushed the Lucknow bowlers on the back foot by hitting 6 fours and 1 brilliant six in his innings.
‘The match has to be taken away from the opposition team in the power play itself’
Talking about the pitch, Kohli said, ‘There was less grass on the pitch and it was playing slower than expected. The behavior had also changed due to the heat. My intention was clear to snatch the match from the opposition team in the power play itself. Kohli made an important partnership of 57 runs for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal (10), which laid the foundation of victory.
RCB reached the top with eight points
After the stormy bowling of Rasikh Salam and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, due to the excellent performance of the batsmen led by Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore team reached the top of the points table by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets. Chasing the target of 147 runs of Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore registered an easy victory by scoring 149 runs for five wickets with 29 balls remaining, thanks to Kohli’s inning of 49 runs in 34 balls with six fours and one six.
