New Delhi. There were many players in Indian cricket whose career was limited to domestic cricket only. One of them is Subhadeep Ghosh. Ghosh, who played domestic cricket for Assam and Railways, never got a chance to wear Team India’s jersey, but as luck would have it, he will now be seen with an important responsibility in the dressing room of the Indian men’s cricket team. Actually, BCCI has decided to make him the new fielding coach of the Indian team. He will start this new responsibility with the two-Test series against Sri Lanka in August. T will take charge in place of Dilip
Subhadeep Ghosh will replace T Dilip as the fielding coach of the Indian team. Dilip was a part of Team India’s support staff since 2021 and his tenure was extended before the England Test series last year. However, his tenure ended after the England tour and the BCCI decided not to extend him further. In recent months, the fielding of the Indian team has been constantly under question. After criticism of dropping easy catches and poor performance on the field, BCCI reviewed the entire system. After this the board decided to hand over a big responsibility to Subhadeep Ghosh.

Who is Subhdeep Ghosh?
57-year-old Subhadeep Ghosh, known as ‘Joy’ in domestic cricket, belongs to Digboi, Assam. He played domestic cricket for Assam and Railways between 1994–95 and 2004–05. During this period he played 17 first class and 17 List-A matches. Subhadeep was stumped by the great Indian captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni in a List-A match between Assam and Jharkhand in 2005. Subhadeep was a right-handed middle order batsman and off-spin bowler. More than playing, he was recognized for his excellent agility and brilliant fielding on the field. This quality has made him a successful fielding coach today.

Important face of COE since the era of Rahul Dravid
Subhadeep Ghosh has been an important part of the National Cricket Academy (now Center of Excellence) for the last 6-7 years. During Rahul Dravid’s tenure, he worked with many young players and also worked hard on the fielding of India A, Under-19 and senior players.

Great experience from IPL to women’s team
Ghosh has vast experience of coaching at domestic and international level. He was part of the fielding coaching staff of the IPL title team of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. After this he also worked as a fielding coach with Delhi Capitals. Not just men’s cricket, he also served as the fielding coach of the Indian women’s team on the Australia tour in 2021. Apart from this, he was also continuously associated with India A and India Under-19 team. He was also a part of the 2024 Under-19 World Cup campaign.

Ghosh is famous for technique and discipline
Subhadeep Ghosh’s coaching style is considered quite disciplined. He continuously makes the players do ground fielding drills, reaction time and catching practice. His focus is on eliminating small mistakes on the field and increasing the agility of the players. The Indian team will play a two-Test series against Sri Lanka in August 2026 and this will be the first big assignment of Subhadeep Ghosh. Now the big responsibility of improving the fielding of Team India will be on his shoulders. If his strategy is successful then he can give a new identity to those players who need more hard work for better fielding on the field.
