The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has adopted a strict stance regarding the continuous use of abusive language and sledging against Indian opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The board has announced punishment by taking strict action against them for hurting the spirit of the game. However, it is not yet clear whether any ban has been imposed on him, any kind of fine has been imposed or he has just been reprimanded.

Why did this big controversy happen?
If reports are to be believed, Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambage was continuously harassing Vaibhav Suryavanshi for some time. This controversy was not just about Monday’s match. Halambage had also targeted Vaibhav in the last match held on the same ground on June 9. Although there was no controversy in that match, but on Monday, when Vaibhav Suryavanshi came to the crease to bat in the ‘Super Over’, Halambage intensified his comments on him. Reports have claimed that Halambage had taunted Vaibhav and said, ‘Go to your home, this is not IPL.’

Strong action by match referee and board
India A and Sri Lanka A match referee Pradeep Jayapragash has fined all the guilty players involved in this incident. In this, Halambage has received the harshest punishment. Since this triangular series does not come under the direct jurisdiction of the ICC, this disciplinary action has been taken by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board itself.

Even Dickwella, who intervened, was not spared.
The surprising thing is that Sri Lanka A wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella has also been fined, even though he was trying to break up the fight between Vaibhav and Halambage during the match. However, it has been made clear in the report that Dickwella has not been punished for being part of the fight. This fine has been imposed on him for a different matter (excessive appeal to the umpire).

Sri Lankan players angry with the behavior of their own team
Many senior players and camp members of Sri Lanka A are very angry with this entire incident. Sri Lanka A had registered a very thrilling victory against India A in this match, but this misbehavior on the field overshadowed the celebration of their glorious victory and only the controversy started being talked about in the whole world. After this entire incident, it is not yet clear whether any formal apology has been made to the Indian team by the Sri Lankan team or the board or not.

‘Vaibhav Suryavanshi was provoked’
The management of the Indian senior team also expressed its views on this controversy related to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Team India’s spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule, who was present in Lucknow, said, ‘I think it was an unfortunate incident, but we do not know how Vaibhav was provoked.’ He further said, ‘As far as I know Vaibhav, he is a very calm boy. I am sure there are experienced coaches there (in Sri Lanka) who will explain it to him. Along with this, I feel that Sri Lankan players should also be taught how to behave on the field. The same thing applies to us also.

Bahutule also said, ‘We will take full care to explain to Vaibhav why this happened, but he will learn from it. He is still a very young player and he will understand these things in future. I am sure he will not do this again.
