KCA lifts ban on S Sreesanth
New Delhi. Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) on Wednesday lifted the three-year ban imposed on former international cricketer S Sreesanth last year for allegedly making derogatory statements against the organization. KCA took this decision in its special general body meeting, the association’s statement said.
In the meeting, it was unanimously decided to lift the ban on Sreesanth. KCA also warned Sreesanth that if such action is repeated in future, strict disciplinary action will be taken. This decision was taken after Sreesanth tendered an unconditional apology and expressed regret over the statement given against KCA.
Why was Sreesanth banned?
Sreesanth was banned before the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) matches last year, when he made derogatory statements against KCA on social media and TV. He had given false and derogatory statements against KCA in the controversy of Sanju Samson being dropped from the Indian team. In a TV discussion, Sreesanth talked about supporting Sanju Samson and protecting Kerala players, and also made allegations against KCA. His statements came at a time when KCA faced criticism for dropping Sanju Samson from the Kerala squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which was believed to have affected Samson’s chances of selection in the Champions Trophy squad.
Ban lifted after apology
After the KCA ban, Sreesanth had said that he only supported Sanju, “who is our own.” “That’s the only good thing I did. I didn’t say anything else against the association,” he had said. After this he filed a petition in the court challenging the decision of KCA, but his petition was rejected. He then formally gave an unconditional apology to KCA and expressed regret over his statement. After the ban is lifted, Sreesanth can continue as co-owner of KCL team Aries Kollam Sailors in the third season.
