Former Indian cricketer Vijay Bhardwaj

New Delhi: In the year 1999, the Indian cricket team went on a tour to Kenya for the LG Cup. Apart from India and Kenya, teams from South Africa and Zimbabwe were also included in this tournament. A player named Vijay Bhardwaj was also selected in the Indian team for this series. Vijay, who played for Karnataka in domestic cricket, was very famous for his spin bowling as well as batting.

The kind of name Vijay had made in domestic cricket, he also proved it in his debut series. Of course, India did not become champion in the LG Cup, but in the form of Vijay Bhardwaj, they got a future star for Indian cricket. Vijay Bhardwaj was the man of series in LG Cup. He took 10 wickets in four matches in bowling and contributed 89 runs in batting while remaining not out in the entire series, but his bad times started after making a splash in the first series.

Stayed in bed for one and a half year due to slip disc

After his strong performance in the LG Cup, Vijay was also included in the Test team of Team India, but he could not show anything special in both the Test and ODI series against New Zealand. However, despite this he was again given a chance to tour Australia. Unfortunately he got injured in the test match played in Sydney, Australia.

Due to this injury he suffered from slipped disc and he remained bedridden for about one and a half years. After getting fit, Vijay returned to the field and again showed his strength in domestic cricket, due to which he was successful in making a place in the Indian team, but he did not have the same shine as before.

Full stop on career due to eye surgery

Before returning to Team India, when Vijay recovered from slipped disc, someone advised him to undergo eye surgery. Vijay used to play wearing glasses. He underwent surgery for his eyes, but it was not completely successful. After the surgery, his eyesight further reduced, due to which he started having trouble seeing the ball while fielding. In such a situation, that eye surgery proved fatal for his career.

The last time Vijay Bhardwaj got a chance to play against Zimbabwe was in the year 2002, but in that match he was out on the first ball. After this he never got a chance again for Team India. In this way, the player who was once being called India’s superstar, soon disappeared from the world’s sight due to injury and surgery.

How has been Vijay Bhardwaj’s career?

Talking about Vijay Bhardwaj’s career, he appeared in 3 Test and 10 ODI matches for India. In Test cricket, he scored 28 runs and took 1 wicket. Apart from taking 16 wickets in his name in ODI, he also scored 136 runs. Whereas, in domestic cricket, Vijay took 59 wickets in 96 first class matches and scored 5553 wickets in batting.
