Sanskrit is counted among the oldest and richest languages of India. A large part of our philosophy, literary knowledge and history has been written in this language. In such a situation, when news comes that students in Lahore, Pakistan are taking interest in learning Sanskrit. After many decades, Sanskrit is again becoming a part of higher education in Pakistan. Two Sanskrit courses have already been taught in Lahore University of Management Sciences. To take this initiative forward, preparations are now being made to add it to the regular courses. According to reports, Sanskrit is not considered a religious language in Pakistan, it is not for the sake of history but to understand the culture and old literature. Many students are showing their interest towards this language to know the common heritage of South Asia.
According to BBC report, Dr. Shahid Rashid is teaching Sanskrit in Pakistan. According to him, Lahore has been a big center of learning Sanskrit. There were many places from where Sanskrit books were sent all over India. Sanskrit is the common heritage of South Asia.

Jamia is not getting students
At the same time, in Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi in India, the number of students for courses like Sanskrit and Persian for the session 2026-27 was not complete. Because of which Jamia University decided to close 5 courses. Jamia has decided to continue courses like BA Sanskrit and MA Sanskrit. Whereas the chances of admission in this also are less. The university administration believes that the number of students may increase in the coming years, hence these courses will be continued for now.
According to experts, now students are moving towards such courses which can help them get a job soon. In the era of AI, the preferences of students are changing. In such a situation, traditional subjects are often seen as areas with less employment. Due to which admissions in these subjects are being affected.
