The government has taken strict steps before the country’s biggest medical entrance exam NEET UG 2026, which is going to be held in May. The National Medical Commission has sent clear instructions to all the medical colleges of the country that no medical student should be given leave on 2nd and 3rd May 2026. This means that those students who have planned leave on these dates or whose leave is already approved, will now have to come to college. Leave will also be canceled if necessary.
NEET UG 2026 exam will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026. This examination is conducted for admission to undergraduate medical courses across the country. Every year lakhs of students appear for this examination. The responsibility of conducting the examination rests with the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Why was there a need to cancel holidays?
In the last few years, many controversies have emerged regarding the NEET exam. Especially the issue of paper leak in NEET UG 2024 was discussed across the country. Many people were arrested in this case in Bihar. Investigation had revealed that some people had delivered the question papers to the students even before the examination and a huge amount was taken in return.

What is written in the notice?
NMC has clearly stated in its notice that earlier such cases have come to light in which students of some medical colleges were found involved in such activities, which raised questions on the fairness of the examination. Therefore, all the colleges have been instructed to be alert and make the students follow the rules.
What happened before?
The paper leak case of NEET UG 2024 had shaken the country. There were protests in many states, petitions were filed in the courts. In some petitions, a demand was also raised to cancel the examination and conduct it again. Later the Central Government handed over the investigation of this case to CBI.
What did NMC say?
NMC has issued an official notice asking medical colleges not to grant leave to students on May 2 and May 3. It is also written in the notice that leave can be given only in very important or emergency situations, and that too with solid reasons. The college administration has been asked to make the students aware so that they stay away from any wrong activity.
