SPG Commando: In India, the special contingent which is responsible for the security of the Prime Minister is called SPG (Special Protection Group). It is considered one of the most trained and high security forces in the country. It was established in 1985 and received formal status in 1988. The main job of SPG is to provide close protection to the Prime Minister and his immediate family. Be it an election rally, a foreign tour or a private event, this team is fully prepared to detect and eliminate every possible threat.
Can one become SPG commando directly?
This question remains in the mind of many people whether they can directly join SPG? To join SPG, you first have to be a part of any other security force or police service. This is a kind of elite deployment, where only those officers and soldiers who have excellent records are selected.

The first step to join SPG is to join any reputed security force like CRPF, BSF, CISF. Apart from this, IPS officers can also be taken into SPG. After selection in these services, candidates get rigorous training and field experience, which later plays an important role in the selection of SPG.

SPG selection is very strict. In this, the physical, mental and decision making abilities of the candidates are tested in depth. In the physical test, emphasis is given to stamina, speed and reflexes. The purpose of mental test is to see whether the candidate can remain calm and take the right decision even in a stressful situation. Apart from this, medical examination and interview is also conducted by senior officials. Only those who are able to prove themselves at every level during the entire process are successful in this.

Eligibility Criteria
- It is mandatory for the candidate to be an Indian citizen.
- The age of the citizen should be around 35 years.
- Minimum 12th pass is required, however for higher posts, graduation or above qualification is beneficial.
Salary and facilities
SPG commandos are given attractive salaries and allowances as per their responsibility and risk. Apart from the basic salary, they get special allowance, risk allowance, better accommodation and high level medical facilities. However, the real earning in this job is respect and pride, because they handle the security of the Prime Minister of the country.
