In IPL 2026, on Monday, Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Titans by 99 runs. Batting first, Mumbai had scored 199 runs with the help of Tilak Verma’s brilliant century. While chasing the target, Gujarat batted poorly and the entire team was bundled out for 100 runs in 15.5 overs. Shubman Gill talked about the poor bowling after the defeat, he said that our bowlers gave more runs in the middle overs otherwise the score would have been 160-170 on such a pitch.
While chasing the target, top-5 batsmen in the form of Sai Sudarshan (0), Shubman Gill (14), Jos Buttler (5), Glenn Phillips (6), Washington Sundar (26) were out cheaply, Rahul Tewatia, who came as an impact player, could also score only 8 runs. Shubman Gill admitted that there was dew too so our batting could have been better.

Shubman Gill said, “I think we gave away too many runs in the middle overs. On such a pitch, a score of 160-170 would have been considered decent. It was a small setback, but now we have a few away matches to play, so hopefully we will get back to winning ways.

Gill further said, “I think the pitch was a bit slow. I don’t think we bowled in the right places. Some of the length balls were coming well, but some were not. We were not able to bowl that length consistently. I think the batting could have been better because there was dew.

Questions were being raised for the last few days regarding Tilak Verma’s poor form, to which he answered with his brilliant batting. Tilak scored unbeaten 101 runs in 45 balls, for which he received the Player of the Match award.
