Shreyas Iyer scored a hat-trick of half-centuries, De Kock’s century went in vain, Punjab defeated Mumbai and scored a four to win.

New Delhi. Punjab Kings registered a spectacular victory by dwarfing Mumbai Indians’ score of 195. In the match played at Wankhede Stadium, Punjab defeated Mumbai by 7 wickets. This is Punjab’s fourth win in five matches this season. Punjab team has reached the first position with eight points. Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer scored a hat-trick of half-centuries. He scored a half century in the third consecutive match. While chasing, Punjab Kings proved itself that no matter what the target is, it will go to chase it.

Chasing the target of 196 runs set by Mumbai, Punjab scored 198 runs for 3 wickets in 16.3 overs. Opener Prabhsimran Singh scored 80 runs in 39 balls while captain Shreyas Iyer scored 66 runs in 35 balls. Priyansh Arya was out after scoring 15 runs while Cooper Conley contributed 17 runs. With this victory, Punjab has gained 9 points and reached the first position in the points table of 10 teams.

Earlier, Quinton de Kock’s brilliant century and his century partnership with Naman Dheer helped Mumbai Indians score 195 runs for six wickets against Punjab Kings. De Kock, playing his first match in the current season, apart from playing an unbeaten inning of 112 runs with seven sixes and eight fours in 60 balls, made a partnership of 122 runs for the third wicket with Naman Dhir (50 runs, 31 balls, three fours, three sixes) at a time when the team was in trouble after losing two wickets for 12 runs in the third over. Arshdeep Singh was the most successful bowler for Punjab, taking three for 22 runs. Took wickets.

De Kock completed his half-century in 28 balls with six sixes and one run on Chahal. De Kock completed the team’s century of runs in the 11th over with fours and sixes on consecutive balls of Bartlett.

Naman also completed his half-century in 29 balls with one run off Shashank (one wicket for 19 runs) but the fast bowler’s next ball was played into the hands of Bartlett at long off. De Kock completed his third IPL century in 53 balls with a four off Bartlett. Captain Hardik Pandya (14) hit a six on Yansen but became the victim of a brilliant catch on the next ball. He also played the next ball straight which was going for six runs but Iyer caught the ball and before going out of the boundary, he bounced it towards Bartlett who took the catch.
