Indian team T20 captain Shreyas Iyer
New Delhi: After India’s four-wicket defeat in the second T20 against England, captain Shreyas Iyer defended spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who gave away 29 runs in the 17th over. England needed 49 runs in the last four overs but Bishnoi gave away 29 runs with two no balls in the 17th over and the match was completely out of India’s hands.
However, Iyer defended Bishnoi while refusing to blame any one player for the defeat. “I know when the match went out of our hands, but I don’t want to point fingers at any one player,” Iyer said at the awards ceremony after the match. After the 15th over, the course of the match changed and in the 17th over, the contest completely went towards them (England).
Bishnoi will learn further from this mistake- Shreyas Iyer
On Bishnoi’s expensive over, he said, ‘He bowled a no-ball, but I am confident that he will learn from it and will come back stronger than before.’ The Indian captain also praised the team’s score of 190 runs. He said, “190 runs was a great score on this wicket. Tilak Verma’s flamboyant innings in the last over was very important.
Iyer also openly praised England’s batsman Jacob Bethall and bowler Sam Curran. He said, “Credit goes to Bethal for the way he attacked our bowlers. At the same time, Curan did not give our left-handers a chance to play their favorite leg-side shots.”
Vaibhav’s attitude is fearless- Shreyas Iyer
On the international debut of 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Iyer said, “His attitude is absolutely fearless. It is a great experience to watch him bat. The kind of cricket he has played in the last few months, he has proved himself at this level with the same confidence. His game is soothing to the eyes.”
