Science of Happiness Course: In today’s time, along with studies, the thinking of students is changing rapidly among the youth regarding mental health, emotional support and better lifestyle. This is the reason why now such courses are also becoming popular, which not only teach information from books but also teach the perspective of living life in a better way. Delhi University’s Science of Happiness is one such course, which has been started only two years, but during this period more than 2,000 students have taken admission in it. This increasing number shows that interest in subjects related to mental well-being and positive psychology is continuously increasing among students. So let us know what this course is and why its popularity is increasing so fast.

More than 2,000 students took admission in two years

According to Delhi University, since the beginning of the Science of Happiness course, more than 2,000 students have taken admission in it. Recently, the progress of this course was discussed in the review meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh. Principals and representatives of those colleges where this course is being taught also participated in the meeting. Everyone shared their experiences and said that this course is getting good response among the students.

How did the Science of Happiness course start?

Delhi University had signed an agreement (MoU) with Rekhi Foundation for Happiness in March 2024. Under this, Rekhi Center of Excellence for the Science of Happiness was established. After this the university started this one semester value added course for Under Graduate (UG) students.

For which students is this course currently available?

Dean of Academic Affairs of the University, Professor K. According to Ratnabali, at present this course is available for the students of first four semesters of undergraduate. He also told that it is also being considered to start it as a skill-based paper for postgraduate students.

Why is the popularity of this course increasing?

During the review meeting, Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh said that being happy is one of the biggest achievements of life and it can be achieved through positive thinking as well as good deeds. He said that the world is a better place and if a person does good work then he also gets good results. He also said that earlier courses based on topics like happiness and emotional health were rarely seen, but in view of the changing social environment and the needs of the youth, such courses have now become more popular than before. This is the reason why the interest of students is also increasing rapidly in this direction.

Where is this course being taught?

According to Delhi University, at present this course is being taught in 17 colleges of the university and the Department of Psychology. Major colleges where this course is available include Miranda House, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Hindu College, Hansraj College, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Gargi College, Daulat Ram College, Jesus and Mary College, Kirori Mal College and Atmaram Sanatan Dharma College.

Emphasis is also being given on Mind Lab

Many colleges are also developing additional facilities to make this course more effective. Miranda House and Daulat Ram College informed the university that they have established Mind Lab to promote studies and research related to this course. Other colleges are also planning to start similar facilities.
