Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Sutlej’ is in the news these days. The film was released on the OTT platform Zee5 after a struggle of about 4 years, which was removed from OTT after two days on Sunday. After its removal the matter became very heated. People supported Diljeet and accused the system of not showing the truth. In such a situation, politics has also heated up in Punjab regarding the removal of this film from OTT. Congress has blamed BJP and the Central Government for removing this film. ‘Sutlej’ is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswinder Singh Khalda, which has created a political uproar in Punjab after it was removed from OTT platform ZEE5 within two days. The political parties of Punjab have reacted sharply on this, whereas BJP seems to be cornered on this issue.

BJP leader not aware of removal of film

When Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon was asked about the removal of this film from OTT, he said that he does not know why this film has been removed but he will talk to the Information and Broadcasting Minister regarding it.

Congress targeted the central government

At the same time, Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has directly targeted the central government regarding this. He said that the film is based on facts which the Supreme Court has also accepted as true, then why has this film been removed. He said that during the days of terrorism, the human rights violations committed by the Punjab Police during the fight against terrorism and Jaswant Singh Khalda had exposed it, due to which the police kidnapped him and killed him.

Questioning the removal of the film, Sukhpal Singh said that the court sentenced the accused in it, which the Supreme Court also considered right and upheld the punishment, then how is the film wrong?

Attack on freedom of expression- Akali Dal

Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has said that this film shows the painful history of Punjab and honors the sacrifice of Jaswant Singh Khalda. He wrote that the removal of the film is an attack on freedom of expression and truth. He wrote that the people of Punjab are allowed to know the history of this place.

Aam Aadmi Party has targeted both Congress and BJP over the removal of the film. Party spokesperson Baltej Pannu said that the era depicted in the film was when the Congress government was in Punjab and at that time innocent youth were abducted from their homes and killed by the police. He questioned whether the film was removed at the behest of Congress or BJP.
