He has become only the third Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly to complete 5,000 ODI runs as an opener on foreign pitches. To reach this historic milestone, he took only 110 innings, which is recorded with the best average (52.05) in world cricket. With this, his pair with Virat Kohli also completed the partnership of 8,000 runs in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma created history as soon as he stepped into the second ODI match being played against England in Cardiff. Before the start of the match, he needed only 12 runs as an opener to complete 5,000 runs on foreign pitches. Rohit touched this magical figure by taking a run against England’s leg spinner Adil Rashid on the fifth ball of the 11th over of the innings. With this achievement, he has joined the elite club of great legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

Rohit Sharma took only 110 innings of 112 matches to reach the mark of 5,000 runs on foreign soil. In this case his average and speed have been amazing. He has achieved this position with an excellent average of 52.05 and an excellent strike rate of 88.27, which includes 17 centuries and 28 half-centuries. If we look at the overall list of openers who have scored the most runs on foreign pitches, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya is at second place after Sachin Tendulkar (9,243 runs), who has scored 9,045 runs in 274 matches at an average of 34.52. After him is Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar, who has 6,608 runs in 182 matches at an average of 38.64.
