Rohit Sharma 5000 runs in away ODI: Rohit Sharma has created a new history in the Cardiff ODI against England. He has become only the third Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly to complete 5,000 ODI runs as an opener on foreign pitches. To reach this historic milestone, he took only 110 innings, which is recorded with the best average (52.05) in world cricket. With this, his pair with Virat Kohli also completed the partnership of 8,000 runs in international cricket.
Rohit Sharma created history as soon as he stepped into the second ODI match being played against England in Cardiff. Before the start of the match, he needed only 12 runs as an opener to complete 5,000 runs on foreign pitches. Rohit touched this magical figure by taking a run against England’s leg spinner Adil Rashid on the fifth ball of the 11th over of the innings. With this achievement, he has joined the elite club of great legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
Rohit Sharma took only 110 innings of 112 matches to reach the mark of 5,000 runs on foreign soil. In this case his average and speed have been amazing. If we compare him with other greats of the world, then Rohit’s average is the most unmatched among them all. He has achieved this position with an excellent average of 52.05 and an excellent strike rate of 88.27, which includes 17 centuries and 28 half-centuries. His personal best score on foreign soil has been 171 not out.
If we talk about the batsmen who have scored the most ODI runs as an opener on foreign soil, then India’s greatest batsman Sachin Tendulkar is still at the top in this list. ‘Master Blaster’ played a total of 220 matches as an opening batsman outside India, in whose 216 innings he scored a record 9,243 runs at an average of 45.98 and strike rate of 87.50. During this period, Sachin scored 26 centuries and 45 half-centuries, in which his highest score was 163 runs unbeaten.

If we look at the overall list of openers who have scored the most runs on foreign pitches, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya is at second place after Sachin Tendulkar (9,243 runs), who has scored 9,045 runs in 274 matches at an average of 34.52. After him is Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar, who has 6,608 runs in 182 matches at an average of 38.64. In this list, Sourav Ganguly is at fourth position with 6,400 runs in 178 matches and West Indies’ Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle is at fifth position with 6,173 runs in 170 matches.

Rohit Sharma is now firmly at eighth position after completing 5,000 runs. Right behind him is India’s Virender Sehwag, who has scored 4,943 runs in 141 innings of 142 matches at an average of 36.34. Rohit has already scored more than 1,500 ODI runs in India and Australia. Now he needs only 23 more runs to touch the 1,500 mark in England. He is standing very close to touching this unique and historic milestone.
