The threat to Rohit is not over yet, did BCCI’s statement come just to cool the atmosphere?

Rohit Sharma BCCI Saikia: Those who know the Indian Cricket Board argue that the statement of BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has come only to cool the atmosphere. Even if Rohit Sharma does not play his last match at Lord’s, unless he is made a part of the next ODI series against West Indies starting from September 27, consider the former captain’s career as a threat.
What is the meaning of BCCI Secretary’s statement on Rohit Sharma?
Did Saikia’s statement come only to cool the atmosphere?
In fact, as soon as the news was published in the Indian Express two days ago, the third match against England at Lord’s on July 19 will also be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s career. There was panic all around. From former cricketers to fans, there was talk of Rohit Sharma’s retirement everywhere. Rohit’s family itself has also reached London. But meanwhile, in an interview given to PTI, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said:
I want to emphasize that there is no discussion that Rohit will play his last match at Lord’s on Sunday. Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and will continue to play for the country as long as he is part of the team’s plans. In other words, Lord’s ODI is not his last match.
Selectors do not want Rohit to play World Cup
Rohit Sharma has already retired before T-20 and Test. He has only ODI format left. Rohit, who led India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup under his captaincy, dreams of playing another World Cup in the 50-over format, but there is speculation that the Lord’s ODI will be Rohit’s last international match as the selectors have told him that he is not part of the team’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. This has strengthened the possibility that he may announce his retirement after Sunday’s match or may be dropped from the team.
India’s next ODI series from 27th September
India has to play the next ODI series against West Indies on home soil from 27th September, for which the team can be announced around 17th September. Experts believe that until Rohit Sharma’s name is included in this squad, any statement coming from BCCI should be seen only as damage control.
