Rajasthan born cricketer’s fate is open, selectors gave him a chance in the ODI team, he will make a splash in this series.

New Delhi. Jai Mundra, who performed brilliantly with the ball on his T20 International debut against India, will now make a splash in the ODI format. This cricketer of Indian origin has been included in the Ireland ODI team, which will play a series against Afghanistan. Jai Mundra was born in Rajasthan. He went to Ireland for his higher studies, but his passion for playing cricket made him enter the Irish cricket team. Making his international debut in the T20 series between India and Ireland a few days ago, Jai created a stir with his tremendous bowling. He took 5 wickets in two matches, which helped Ireland register a historic win in the T20 series against India for the first time. Jai got the reward for this performance in the form of selection in the ODI team. If he debuts in the series against Afghanistan, he will become the second Indian-origin cricketer to have played ODI for Ireland.

Eye on Mundra’s ODI debut
The teams of Ireland and Afghanistan will play a 5-match ODI series between 5-14 August, for the first three matches of which Ireland has recalled captain Paul Stirling to the team. Sterling is making a comeback after recovering from the injury suffered during the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. ‘Cricket Ireland’ on Tuesday announced a 14-member squad for the first three matches of the series. Apart from Jai Mundra, Ben Calitz and Byron McDonough have also been included in the ODI team for the first time after their recent excellent performances.

Along with Mundra, Calitz was part of Ireland’s historic T20 series win against Men’s T20 World Cup champions India. However, due to injuries, Ireland will have to play without many experienced players. Fast bowlers Josh Little, Matt Holland, Craig Young, Barry McCarthy, Jordan Neal and David Delaney were not available for selection.

5 ODI matches will be played
The five-match ODI series will start on August 5 at Brady and the second match will also be played at the same venue on August 7. The remaining three matches will be played at Stormont on 10, 12 and 15 August. The Afghanistan series will also be the first assignment for newly appointed head coach Gary Wilson. There has been a fierce rivalry between Ireland and Afghanistan in all formats over the past decade, with many tough matches played in both bilateral cricket and ICC events.
