Batting first, Punjab had scored the highest score of the IPL 2026 tournament, against which Lucknow’s batting could not stand. The entire LSG team could score only 200 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly wreaked havoc and played stormy half-century innings, taking Punjab to a huge score.
Lucknow collapsed in front of the biggest score
When Punjab Kings came to bat first, they had made a huge score of 254 runs. This is the biggest score so far in IPL 2026, in this case it defeated RCB (250 runs). Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni gave a fast start to Lucknow Super Giants, who came to chase the target of 255 runs. Both had scored 61 runs in the powerplay, but the run rate of Lucknow team continued to be around 10, which proved to be a big problem for them in the end.
Marsh scored 40 runs, while Badoni also contributed 35 runs. Captain Rishabh Pant also got the start, who scored 43 runs in 23 balls. But none of these batsmen could convert this score into a big innings. In the end, Aiden Markram played a brilliant inning of 42 runs in 22 balls, but it proved insufficient to give victory to LSG.
Why did Lucknow lose?
There was a huge target of 255 runs in front. The good thing was that Lucknow had maintained the run-rate above 10 by scoring 102 runs in 10 overs. But after that the batsmen needed to change gears. Even till the 13th over, Lucknow’s run-rate was above 10. But after that, falling wickets at regular intervals and falling run-rate became the main reasons for Lucknow’s defeat. As a result, even till the end, LSG scored only 200 runs playing at a run-rate of 10.
