Former test player of Indian cricket team Virat Kohli
New Delhi: Indian cricket team legend Virat Kohli is one of the greatest cricketers of the present time. However, Virat Kohli now plays only one format, ODI. Virat has retired from Test and T20. Recently, Virat Kohli was asked a question regarding Test retirement during the promotion of his brand One8. A debate has erupted regarding what Virat said in response to this. Virat said that if the shoes were sold less then they would be sold, but now I will not wear the white jersey. That is, he made it clear that he has no intention of returning to Test cricket.
Now a question also arises that Virat Kohli, about whom it was said all over the world that he breathed new life into Test cricket with his game and attitude, is now why the same player is shying away from returning to red ball cricket. Maybe this is Virat Kohli’s own personal decision. It is his right to decide in which format he plays and in which not, but early retirement of a player like Virat Kohli from Test cricket is harmful for this format.
Virat Kohli had become the brand of Test cricket.
Virat Kohli scored 9230 runs in 123 test matches for Team India. Virat has also kept the price of red colored shoes of his company One8 at Rs 9230. Virat Kohli decided the price of shoes on his Test runs, but he did not remember that he had become a brand of Test cricket. Today fans are more inclined towards T20. Even ODI matches are now being considered cumbersome. In such a situation, it is not difficult to tell how much interest people will have in Test cricket being played for five days.
However, when legends like Virat Kohli used to play test matches, not only in India but the fans all over the world kept an eye on him. Because of Virat, Test cricket started looking exciting. Today, except Joe Root, there is no other big name who is in the news for Test cricket. Joe Root recently made the record of scoring the fastest 14000 runs in Test cricket.
Why did players like Virat also join Test?
Of course, the popularity of Test cricket has declined today, but the real test of a player still lies in red ball cricket. Even today, cricketers dream of representing their country in Tests, but instant cricket i.e. T20 has now changed the minds of the players. There are countless examples where players have left international cricket and started playing only in T20 leagues for money. He is retiring at a young age for T20.
This is the reason why no matter how much Virat Kohli says that he has left Test cricket due to fitness and increasing age, but the other aspect is that if Virat Kohli can play in IPL and ODI, then couldn’t he have left IPL and ODI and played only Test for Team India? He had this option also. In such a situation, the matter is clear that due to money and personal achievements, even legends like Virat Kohli are staying away from the Test format. However, despite this, players like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant have taken the initiative to breathe new life into Test cricket in India, but it is difficult to say how long will these players continue to support the red ball amidst the continuous cricket.
