One player’s salary in IPL will be Rs 150 crore, the whole world is surprised by Lalit Modi’s prediction

Indian Premier League founder Lalit Modi has made a surprising prediction. Before the start of IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals franchise was sold for US $ 1.63 billion. Whereas RCB was sold for even more, 1.78 billion US dollars. These figures are proof that IPL has indeed become one of the richest cricket leagues in the world. Now IPL founder Lalit Modi says that by the year 2030, a player will start earning Rs 150 crore.

$100 million team purse

Currently the purse of the teams in IPL is Rs 125 crore. This means that any one team can spend Rs 125 crore (about 15 million dollars) to prepare a squad of maximum 25 players. Lalit Modi believes that after the next five years the purse of the teams will have reached 100 million dollars. This amount is more than Rs 930 crore. If Modi’s prediction turns out to be true then the team purse would have increased more than 7 times.

Earning of one player is Rs 150 crore

Currently, the most expensive player of the Indian Premier League is Rishabh Pant, who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction of IPL 2025. At second place is Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, who is getting Rs 26.75 crore.

On Michael Vaughan’s The Overlap podcast, Lalit Modi says that in just 5 years the bids placed on players would have increased more than 5 times. He says that by 2030, a player will be able to earn Rs 130-150 crore from IPL contract. He has given this amount for the top 3-4 players in each team.

According to media reports, IPL has become the second largest league in the world in terms of brand value. Only the NFL (National Football League) played in America is ahead of it. IPL has left behind iconic leagues like NBA, MLB.
