In a statement issued by the IPL, it was said, “Delhi Capitals batsman Nitish Rana has been fined 25% of his match fee and has also been given 1 demerit point for violating Level 1 of the Code of Conduct for IPL players. Rana was found to have violated Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with the use of loud abuses during the match. This incident happened in the 19th over, when Rana was engaged in a long argument with the fourth umpire.”

Why did Rana fight with the umpire?

Nitish Rana’s argument with the umpire took place in the 19th over of Delhi Capitals’ innings. Tristan Stubbs was out on the third ball of the over. Rana and the Delhi team were angry that Stubbs was not allowed to change his gloves. The umpire did not allow changing the gloves in the middle of the over, after which Stubbs was out. At this time Delhi needed 30 runs in 10 balls to win. After Stubbs was out, Nitish was angry and started arguing with the umpire.
