Master Blaster’s friend in trouble… Vinod Kambli is in danger of stroke, Sachin is helping from behind the curtain

New Delhi. About 18 months ago, when Vinod Kambli was seen in public during the unveiling of the Ramakant Achrekar Memorial in Mumbai, his condition shocked everyone. He was staggering and had to struggle a lot even to stand up. Seeing his condition, veterans like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar extended their helping hands, which helped him to recover. But, recently the information shared by his close friend Marcus Couto has raised new concerns.

According to Marcus Couto, ‘Vinod Kambli’s current situation is quite critical. There is a clot (blood clot) in his brain, which is no longer possible to remove through surgery because necessary precautions were not taken in the initial stages. Kambli’s memory is weakening. Kuto says that he forgets a lot, although the situation has not worsened in the last six months. Whenever he remembers something old, he is happy, otherwise things are blurry for him.

Well-known neurosurgeon Dr. Adil Chagla, who himself is a former cricketer. At present he is treating Kambli. He has warned that Kambli’s next condition could be ‘brain stroke’. Due to this problem in the brain, the balance of his body is deteriorating. A shocking revelation is that Kambli has given up alcohol, but he is still attracted to smoking. According to Hindustan Times, Marx Couto said, ‘Sometimes when he is out of the house, he asks for cigarettes from passers-by or auto drivers. People consider him as ‘the great Vinod Kambli’ and give him cigarettes as a mark of respect, but they do not know that they are not helping them but causing huge harm to them. Now the danger is not to his heart or liver, but directly to his brain.

Support of friends and ‘silent’ help of Sachin
Kambli is not alone in this difficult time. His friends have created a WhatsApp group, which includes many former cricketers. These friends are helping Kambli financially without disclosing his name so that he can meet his treatment and household expenses. The most important thing is that his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar is also helping him in every possible way ‘behind the scenes’. Couto confirmed that Sachin’s support is always available whenever it is needed. At present, Kambli is in dire need of a physiotherapist as the strength in his legs has reduced, arrangements for which are expected to be made by next week.

Return to screen after a decade
Despite so many physical disabilities, Kambli’s willpower is still intact. He is going to make a comeback on screen after almost 10 years. Recently he has shot an advertisement for ‘Dinshaw’s Ice Cream’. This shoot took place in Mahim, Mumbai. According to Kuto, the script of the advertisement was prepared keeping in mind Kambli’s current condition and age. In this he has been shown to be very natural and real. Kambli, who till six months ago used to walk by holding on to the furniture at home, has now started walking on his own with the help of a ‘mountaineering stick’. He is very happy with this change.
