The Maharashtra government had presented a proposal to the Governor to promote the study and research of Marathi language in Rajasthan. After this the Governor instructed universities to set up Marathi study centres. Now preparations are being made to start these centers in universities across the state.

At present, a separate department of Rajasthani language is running in only four universities of the state. These universities include Rajasthan University of the capital Jaipur, Jai Narayan Vyas University Jodhpur, Mohanlal Sukhadia University Udaipur and Maharaja Ganga Singh University Bikaner. Apart from this, UG and PG courses are conducted in Rajasthani language in Kota Open University. After which a controversy has started arising that most of the universities of Rajasthan do not have departments of Rajasthani language, but instructions have been given to establish Marathi language study centers there.

Teaching Marathi made mandatory in Maharashtra

Amidst the controversy over the study of Marathi language in Rajasthan, the Maharashtra government has made it mandatory to study Marathi from class 1 to 10 in all mediums and schools belonging to all education boards. The state government has directed to conduct special inspection campaigns to ensure its compliance and take action against schools violating the rules. Schools have also been asked to appoint qualified Marathi teachers.

The issue was raised in Maharashtra Assembly

Let us tell you that during the monsoon session of Maharashtra Assembly, BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar had raised the issue that Marathi language is not being taught in many schools of the state. Meanwhile, other MLAs also raised questions on this and alleged that effective action is not being taken against schools breaking the rules. On this, School Education Minister Dada Bhuse said that the state government is fully committed to the preservation and promotion of Marathi language. He said that special inspection will be conducted in all the schools of the Governor and if any violation of rules is found, strict action will be taken against the concerned officers and institutions.
