Kiran Powar Assam: Younger brother played 33 international matches for India, elder brother became the head coach of this team of the country.

Mumbai: Former Mumbai and Baroda first-class cricketer Kiran Powar has been appointed the new head coach of the Assam men’s team for the 2026-27 domestic season, he said on Monday. Kiran, a 50-year-old former left-handed player, has played for Mumbai, Baroda and Assam.

Kiran is the elder brother of Ramesh Powar
Kiran Powar is the elder brother of former Indian off-spinner and former head coach of the women’s team, Ramesh Powar. Last season, Kiran was in charge of the Mumbai Under-23 team and this will be his first stint with the senior team in which he will be in charge. Kiran told PTI:

I am very happy to be appointed the coach of Assam Ranji team. I am very eager to work with him. When I came here as the coach of the Mumbai Under-23 team, I was really impressed by his vision.

Kiran has been a legend of first class cricket
Kiran has scored approximately 3500 runs in 71 senior level matches (First Class and List A). Kiran told that when he came with Mumbai Under-23 team for the CK Nayudu Trophy, he was very impressed by the ‘vision’ of Assam Cricket Association (ACA) due to which he accepted their proposal.

Kiran also thanked Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President Ajinkya Naik for his support. Kiran said, ‘I wholeheartedly thank MCA and its president Ajinkya Naik who supported me when many people were against me.’ I am leaving Mumbai with a heavy heart. Whatever I am in life today is because of Mumbai Cricket.
