Shock in the beginning, then storm of Butler-Brook
England got the first blow in the form of Phil Salt at the beginning of the innings, but after this Jos Buttler and captain Harry Brook attacked the Indian bowlers fiercely. Both the batsmen made the match completely in favor of England by making a record partnership of 233 runs for the second wicket. England scored 61 runs in the powerplay and by the end of 10 overs the score reached 111/1. After this, both the batsmen increased the pace of scoring runs.
Century in 51 balls, Indian bowlers helpless
Butler completed his half-century in the 11th over and then changed gears. He thrashed young fast bowler Prince Yadav severely. He completed his century in just 51 balls by hitting a six off Akshar Patel in the 16th over. Ultimately, in the 19th over, while trying to play a big shot on the ball of Shivam Dubey, he was caught out by Shreyas Iyer. By then he had scored 131 runs in 64 balls. His innings included 12 fours and 8 sixes. England scored a huge score of 257/3 in 20 overs.
Biggest T20 innings against India
Jos Buttler has now become the batsman to score the highest individual score against India in T20 International. He left behind Evin Lewis’ record of 125* runs in 2017. Butler becomes England’s most successful T20 batsman
This is Butler’s ninth century in T20 cricket and his first on English soil. With this he also crossed the mark of 14,500 runs in T20 cricket. He became only the third batsman in the world to score more than 14,500 runs in T20 cricket. Before him, only Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle had achieved this feat.
