NGT ban on sports activities in SMS stadium.
Jaipur. If you are waiting for a big cricket match or other sports event in the coming days at Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Stadium in Jaipur, then this news is for you. At present there will be no sports activity in this historical stadium. The reason for this is not any technical work or change in the tournament, but the strict order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Amid questions raised regarding adherence to environmental rules, the tribunal has imposed an interim ban on sports activities in the stadium.
The National Green Tribunal has ordered an interim ban on all sports activities at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The tribunal has said that no cricket match or other sporting event will be held in the stadium till the next hearing on August 17 or until special permission is granted.
Why was the ban imposed?
According to NGT, notices had been issued to the stadium management several times before. In these notices, information was sought about following instructions related to environmental protection. But the tribunal says that despite giving repeated opportunities, a satisfactory reply was not received. After this, the decision to impose this interim ban was taken.
Accused of not following which rules
NGT had earlier directed the stadium management to minimize the use of groundwater. Also, it was asked to use treated water from Sewage Treatment Plant i.e. STP for irrigation and maintenance of sports grounds. Apart from this, instructions were also given to develop an effective system of rain water conservation. The Tribunal believes that the expected response and compliance regarding adherence to these environmental instructions was not forthcoming.
How long will the ban last?
According to the order of NGT, this ban is currently interim. The next hearing will be held on August 17. Till then or until special permission is obtained from the Tribunal, no sports activity of any kind can be organized in the stadium.
what will be its effect
Sawai Mansingh Stadium is the most prominent international cricket ground of Rajasthan. Along with domestic cricket, big national and international competitions are also organized here. In such a situation, this order of NGT may have an impact on the matches and other sports events proposed in future, if relief is not given before August 17. At present, all eyes are on the hearing of August 17, where it will be clear when Jaipur’s SMS Stadium will be able to open again for players and spectators.
