There was also an Oriya sailor on board the same ship, who was a great devotee of Lord Jagannath. When he saw the captain and others disappointed, he praised Lord Jagannath. He told the captain to pray to Lord Jagannath in this hour of crisis, because he is considered a god who protects his devotees.

It is said that after listening to that sailor, Captain Albek Bito remembered Lord Jagannath with full faith. He took a vow in his mind that if his ship passed safely from this terrible storm, he would dedicate the big bell present on the ship at the feet of Lord Jagannath.
According to folklore, after some time of prayer, the fury of the sea gradually started calming down. The ship proceeded safely on its course and a major accident was averted. Impressed by this miraculous experience, the captain decided to fulfill his vow.
Later that bell was gifted to Lord Jagannath and installed in the Jagannath Puri temple complex. This bell is today famous by the name of “French bell”. It is believed that it is not just an object made of metal, but a symbol of a unique story of faith, belief and devotion to God.
Even today, when devotees hear about this bell, they realize that the glory of Lord Jagannath is not limited to India only, but has also been influencing the hearts of people from across the ocean.
