New Delhi. India defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the third ODI and captured the three-match ODI series 3-0. In this match, the Afghanistan team, which came to bat first, could not stand against the Indian bowling attack and was reduced to just 218 runs in 44.2 overs. From the Indian side, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna displayed lethal bowling and took 5 wickets in his name and broke the back of the visiting team. Thanks to his brilliant spell, the Indian team got a very easy and small target.
In reply, the Indian team, chasing the target of 219 runs, scored 224 runs by losing 1 wicket in just 28.4 overs and easily won the match. The hero of India’s one-sided victory was opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored an unbeaten century of 110 runs in 86 balls with the help of 14 fours and 3 sixes. Prasidh Krishna’s 5 wicket haul, Afghanistan bundle out for 218
Earlier, with the career-best bowling of Prasidh Krishna (23/5), India bowled out Afghanistan for 218 runs despite the first century of captain Hashmatullah Shahidi’s career. In front of Prasidh’s stormy bowling, Afghanistan had lost four wickets for 36 runs in the 10th over, but before being out as the last batsman, Shahidi, apart from playing an innings of 102 runs in 131 balls with 13 fours and one six, made a partnership of 105 runs in 117 balls for the fifth wicket with Azmatullah Omarzai (50) and took the team to a respectable score. Shahidi also made a partnership of 57 runs in 53 balls for the sixth wicket with Mohammad Nabi (21). However, the visiting team was limited to 44.2 overs in the end.
Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first
Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first, after which Prasidh destroyed the top order of the visiting team with his brilliant bowling. He tempted the batsmen to play drives by bowling the ball on ‘fuller length’. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (05), Ibrahim Zadran (11) and Rahmat Shah (05) all three tried to play drives on the balls outside Prasidh’s off stump and gave easy catches to Rohit Sharma standing at first slip. Darvish Rasooli (01) also tried to pull the ball of this fast bowler and waved the ball in the air and Shreyas Iyer ran from mid-off and took a brilliant catch. With this, Prasidh got his fourth wicket within the first 10 overs.
Prasidh Krishna made a place in the special list
Karnataka’s fast bowler Prasidh Krishna also made a place in the special list of fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Javagal Srinath and Mohammed Siraj who have achieved this feat. Afghanistan was in danger of collapsing after losing four wickets for 36 runs, but Shahidi and Umarzai faced the Indian bowlers boldly and pulled the team out of trouble. Shahidi played the role of managing the innings very well. He often played ‘late cuts’ to score runs and was successful in playing shots in empty areas. Shahidi completed his half-century in 64 balls.
Five-run penalty imposed on Afghanistan
Omarzai adopted a more aggressive stance. He scored a half-century in 55 balls. He also hit sixes on left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey (38/1) and off-spinner Washington Sundar. However, while trying to pull the ball of Prince Yadav (38/1), Umarzai was caught by Prasidh standing at long leg. After reaching 80 runs due to the scorching heat, Shahidi had to face the problem of stiffness in his leg but he remained at the crease. He completed his first ODI century in 128 balls by hitting a four with a late cut off Washington’s ball. After Nabi’s dismissal, wickets started falling rapidly at the other end. Despite the pain, Shahidi took Afghanistan’s score beyond 200 runs. Shahidi became Prasidh’s fifth victim in the 45th over when he was caught by Iyer at deep midwicket. Afghanistan were penalized five runs for running on a ‘dangerous part’ of the pitch on the last ball of the 39th over of the innings.
