Tilak Varma Statement: Tilak admitted that in the last two years, the Indian team played mostly cricket in Asia, due to which it took time to adapt to the conditions of England and Ireland. Describing England as a strong team, he said that it was not easy to play against them in foreign conditions. He also termed Zimbabwe as a competitive team and said that India is not taking it lightly. The first T20 will be played between India and Zimbabwe on 23 July.
Tilak Verma told the biggest reason for defeat on UK tour.
New Delhi. India’s T20 team vice-captain Tilak Verma said that due to early wickets falling in England and Ireland, middle-order batsmen like him did not get a chance to play with full strength from the beginning. He also stressed that his game is based on the circumstances and conditions of the match. Before the first T20 against Zimbabwe on July 23, Tilak was asked about the team’s lack of victory in this format in Ireland and England. This was his first tour after winning the T20 World Cup in home country.
Regarding the defeat in England and Ireland, Tilak said that after playing most of the cricket in Asia in the last few years, the reason for the poor performance was the team’s inability to adapt to the conditions there. He said, ‘To be honest, Shreyas (Iyer) is leading a successful team right now. Obviously there will be responsibilities and expectations. The situation was different in Ireland. If you look at the last two years, we played more matches in Asia.
Tilak said, ‘After two years we came straight into overseas conditions and that too against a good team. England team is very good. We all saw how he played in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Obviously it is challenging to play against a good team in good conditions. Tilak hopes that Zimbabwe will give him a tough competition. Unlike last time, India is fielding almost a full strength team.
‘Zimbabwe are a very good team’
He said, ‘Zimbabwe is also a very good team. They are a very competitive team. Last year he won the first match in the series. We hope that they will give a tough fight. Regarding the situation, Tilak said, ‘Last time the wickets were good so I was talking to them because when we played in Zimbabwe last year, our junior team had come. So many people from that team have still come. He said, ‘I was talking to him (Vaibhav Suryavanshi) about how the wicket would behave. If you look at the fields, they are very big and the wind is blowing and the weather is cold.
