Nitish Kumar Reddy during practice
New Delhi: After Zimbabwe, the Indian cricket team will go to Sri Lanka for a two-Test series. The Indian team for this Test series against Sri Lanka can be announced on July 28, but before that a big news is coming out. According to the report, pace bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is unlikely to be selected for India’s two-Test series in Sri Lanka.
Nitish suffered a quadriceps injury just before the tour of Ireland and England. However, Nitish has now recovered from it and has started bowling again, but as a precaution, he cannot be included in the team right now. Talking about the series against Sri Lanka, it will be played in Galle and Colombo from 15 to 27 August.
Nitish Reddy at Center of Excellence
Nitish Reddy, who was part of the Indian team for the New Chandigarh Test against Afghanistan, is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. According to the report of Cricbuzz, Reddy has started bowling again, but the board feels that this series will be too early for him.
Let us tell you that Reddy’s fitness has been a major cause of disappointment for the Indian team in recent times. Actually, Reddy had become a very important backup option for Hardik Pandya, but his fitness has spoiled the planning of the Indian team.
Role of spinner will be important in Sri Lanka
In this series against Sri Lanka, the board will be in favor of giving long rest to Nitish Reddy because the spinners are expected to dominate here. India has no dearth of spin all-rounders. Recently Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey have been given a chance. Both of them impressed a lot in both batting and bowling. There is also concern about Washington Sundar’s recent knee injury. He is also rehabbing in the CoE and if he is out, the team may need an additional off-spinner.
