Is Jadeja’s ODI career over? Ignored for England tour
Last Updated:
Ravindra Jadeja Snubbed from ODI Squad for England Series: Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has not been selected for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. After being rested in the ODI series against Afghanistan, the selectors have also ignored him from the England tour. The team has decided to give a chance to Akshar Patel in his place.
Has Ravindra Jadeja played his last ODI match?
New Delhi. Big question marks are now being raised on the ODI career of Indian cricket team’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. When the Indian team was announced for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, the biggest surprising decision was the absence of Jadeja’s name in it. After being continuously ignored by the selectors, now the discussion has intensified whether the ODI journey of this legendary player is now on the verge of ending? On social media, fans are even saying that he has played his last match in the ODI format. He was last seen playing an ODI match in the series against New Zealand in January this year.
After Afghanistan series, England tour also cleared
Let us tell you that earlier Ravindra Jadeja was not included in the team in the recent ODI series played against Afghanistan, then it was believed that he was given rest under workload management, but now the selectors have ignored him even for a big and important tour like England. Being out of the second consecutive ODI series is a clear indication that the team management is now thinking ahead of Jadeja.
Akshar Patel became the first choice of selectors
In place of Ravindra Jadeja, the selectors have expressed confidence in left-arm spin-allrounder Akshar Patel. Akshar is continuously impressing with his tight bowling and aggressive batting in the lower order. Being an option like Jadeja and being in better form at present, the team management has decided to give him a chance as the main all-rounder on the England tour.
Falling form became the reason
Jadeja has been struggling in the 50 over format for some time. He scored his last ODI half-century against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, where he scored an unbeaten 66 runs. Since then his highest score has been only 45 not out. In the same year, he could not take even a single wicket in the ODI series played against New Zealand, and India had to face a series defeat against New Zealand. Team India’s stance has changed with the arrival of young and in-form players like Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar. The Indian team now wants to prepare its team around these two players for the next ODI World Cup to be held in 2027.
Jadeja’s brilliant ODI career
Even though Jadeja’s recent form has not been good, his ODI career has been excellent. Since his debut in 2009, he has scored 2905 runs while playing 210 ODI matches and also taken 232 wickets. Jadeja was a part of the Indian team in the 2015, 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cups, where Team India reached at least the semi-finals (Top-4). After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, he retired from T20 International cricket along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Speculations of retirement intensify
After Jadeja’s ODI career and continuous drops, speculations have intensified on social media and media regarding his retirement. Now the path of returning to the ODI team seems very difficult for Jadeja, who is 37 years old. However, no statement or indication regarding retirement has yet come from Ravindra Jadeja himself.
