IND vs ENG: England team announced for ODI series with India, 22 year old all-rounder gets first chance

New Delhi. England has announced a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against India this month. 22 year old uncapped all-rounder James Coles has got a chance in the ODI team for the first time. At the same time, fast bowler Josh Tong has also been included in this team. A five-match T20 International series is currently being played between India and England, after which both the teams will face each other in three ODI matches on 14, 16 and 19 July in Birmingham, Cardiff and Lord’s respectively.

Archer will play ODI for the first time this year
To challenge the strong Indian team, England has also included fast bowlers Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood in the team. The return of Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian team is considered certain, while the availability of Virat Kohli will depend on his fitness. England’s leading fast bowler Joffra Archer is also included in the team. He will return to ODI cricket for the first time after November 2025.

This series is very important for England, because the team is busy preparing for the ODI World Cup to be held in South Africa next year. England’s performance in the last two major ICC tournaments (2023 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy) was not anything special.

Bethel likely to open
Compared to the team of 15 players that toured Sri Lanka in January-February this year, four changes have been made this time. Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Saqib Mahmood and James Coles have been included in the team, while Braydon Carse, Jack Crawley, Jamie Overton and Luke Wood have had to look out of the way. According to the report of ‘Cricinfo’, after Jack Crawley was dropped from the team, now Jacob Bethel will start the innings and will be seen as the opening partner with Ben Duckett.
