Ben Duckett scored a century against India at Lord’s

New Delhi: In the third ODI match played against India at Lord’s, England’s opening batsman Ben Duckett batted brilliantly. Duckett, opening the innings with Jacob Bethel, scored 141 runs in 135 balls. In this innings he hit 18 fours and 1 six. Ben Duckett along with Jacob Bethel made a partnership of 192 runs for the first wicket. During this, Bethal was out after scoring 91 runs.

Due to this strong opening partnership of Ben Duckett and Bethel, England set a strong target of 388 runs for India. However, in response, Team India also gave a tough fight to England, but despite Rohit Sharma’s 138 runs, captain Shubman Gill’s 77 runs and Virat Kohli’s 74 runs, they could reach 360 runs in 50 overs. The top order batsmen from both the teams showed tremendous performance. In such a situation, the thing to be seen was who would be chosen as the player of the match.

Jacob Bethel elected POTM in place of Ben Duckett

After England’s 27-run win over India, all eyes were on the Player of the Match. Everyone thought that Ben Duckett would get this award, but to his surprise, Jacob Bethel was selected for it. It often happens in cricket that if a batsman plays a century on behalf of the winning team, due to which the team makes a big score, then he is chosen as the player of the match or a bowler takes five wickets, but Jacob Bethal did nothing in both.

Now the question is why Jacob Bethel was chosen player of the match. Actually, Bethal was given this award for his impactful performance. Bethal first made a century partnership with Duckett and then at a crucial juncture he took the wicket of Rohit Sharma, who was trying to single-handedly snatch the match from England. As soon as Rohit was out, the match completely shifted towards England, due to which Jacob Bethel was chosen as the player of the match, keeping him above the performance of Ben Duckett.
