After defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (March 8), Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir reached a Hanuman temple in Ahmedabad with the trophy along with ICC Chairman Jay Shah.
Kirti Azad, who was a member of the team that won the World Cup for India in 1983, criticized this move by tweeting. He wrote, “When we won the World Cup in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, there were Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians in our team. We brought the trophy not to our religious places, but to our country India. After all, why is the Indian cricket trophy being dragged? Why only temples? Why not mosques? Why not churches? Why not Gurudwaras?
