The pairing of Bollywood ‘Dream Girl’ Hema Malini and ‘He-Man’ Dharmendra has been one of the most talked about and favorite couples not only on the big screen but also in real life. Together they gave many superhit films and ruled the hearts of the audience for decades. Even after Dharmendra’s death, Hema Malini often shares her memories related to him.

Now, on the occasion of completion of 60 years of his film career, he once again remembered his life partner and said that Dharmendra encouraged him in every difficult phase and never let him lose faith in himself.
In a special interview given to IANS, Hema Malini spoke openly about her six decade long film journey, changing life and the unwavering cooperation she got with Dharmendra. This conversation took place before her special program ‘Hema Malini: Live in Concert’, which is being organized to celebrate her 60 years of glorious cinematic journey.
60 years of film journey
Recalling her career, Hema Malini said, ‘In my life, what always happened was as per the time. The 70s and 80s were a very busy period for me. I worked in many films continuously. After this there was a break for some time, then I worked in ‘Bagban’ and some other films. However, I have never been free. Constantly busy in dance shows, ballet and many other things. Later, when I became an MP, my life took a new turn. Even today I live among the people and consider myself fortunate that I got the opportunity to serve the public. Earlier I used to entertain people through films, dance and stage performances, now serving the people of Mathura is an important part of my life.
He further said, ‘Even today when people see me, the first thing they remember is my popular character ‘Basanti’. People of my area in Mathura often ask me to speak any dialogue of Basanti. Even after so many years have passed, those characters are still alive in the hearts of people. This is the biggest happiness for me.

During the interview, Hema Malini also mentioned about Dharmendra’s companionship, which always gave her inspiration to move forward. He said, ‘Dharam ji always used to tell me that never think that because you are doing less films, everything is over. You are doing your dance show, taking part in many other things. Don’t stop, just keep moving forward like this. He was always happy to see that I was busy in some work or the other. He appreciated all my efforts and always told me to never give up what I was doing.
He told that it was Dharmendra’s trust and encouragement, which kept him active in every phase.
