Hardik Pandya gave an amazing answer to the question related to Jasprit Bumrah.
New Delhi. The victory brought relief to the fans of Mumbai Indians after four consecutive defeats in the Indian Premier League 2026. Jasprit Bumrah finally opened his wicket account in IPL 2026. On Monday, he achieved success on the very first ball for Mumbai Indians against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. After not getting a wicket in the first five matches, Bumrah burst on fire with the very first ball. He opened his account by dismissing the dangerous Sai Sudarshan on the very first ball and gave only one run in the over. Overall, Bumrah took 1 wicket for 15 runs in 3 overs and Mumbai Indians successfully defended the score of 199 runs.
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was asked how Bumrah took a wicket on the very first ball of the first over of Gujarat Titans’ innings. Pandya replied, “Yes, it is very interesting. I have heard many times people asking why Jasprit never bowled the first over. But if you see, out of 151 matches, Jasprit has bowled the first over only eight or nine times. So I don’t think this is a problem of Hardik Pandya. Jasprit Bumrah is so special that you can use him anywhere as per the need of the team, not necessarily in the beginning. But today we felt that It is important to make an impact with the new ball and there is no one better than him.”
Mumbai Indians made a strong score of 199/5, in which Tilak Verma played a explosive inning of 101 not out in just 45 balls. With this innings, he also equaled the record of fastest century for Mumbai Indians in IPL. Naman Dhiro helped the team recover from the initial setbacks by playing an important inning of 45 runs.
Pandya also expressed satisfaction over breaking Mumbai Indians’ four-match losing streak. He said, “It was very important. It is always challenging to go out and win. Also, Ahmedabad has never been a good ground for Mumbai Indians, so this win is very satisfying.”
The bowlers of Mumbai Indians also gave a great team performance. Ashwani Kumar gave 24 runs by taking 4 wickets, while Mitchell Santner and Allah Ghazanfar destroyed Gujarat’s batting by taking two wickets each. Praising the team’s performance, Pandya said, “It was important to bowl in the right area and with the right intention. The youngsters performed brilliantly and the fielding was also excellent.”
