Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can debut Ireland t20 series: A new wind of change is blowing in Indian cricket at this time. After the spectacular title win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Team India is now all set to start a new journey under the leadership of its new T20 captain Shreyas Iyer. India has to play a two-match T20 International series against Ireland this week. The first match of the series will be played on 26 June in Belfast, while the second match will also be held on the same ground on 28 June. In this series, 3 players from India can debut in T20, of which the biggest name is Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

The two-match short T20 series to be played between India and Ireland from June 26 is like the beginning of a new chapter for both the countries. On one hand, Shreyas Iyer is making his captaincy debut with the Indian team, while on the other hand, the host Ireland team will also take the field under the leadership of its new full-time T20 captain Lorcan Tucker. Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast is ready to witness both these new pitches and strategies.

In this entire series, if the eyes of cricket fans around the world are fixed on one player, then it is just 15-year-old left-handed top-order batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Vaibhav has been included in the Indian main team for the Ireland tour. Getting a call to the senior national team at such a young age is an extraordinary achievement in itself, which has created huge excitement in the Indian cricket circles.

If Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets a chance to join the playing eleven in any match of this series against Ireland, then a great record in the history of cricket will be broken. He will break the almost 37 year old record of the great batsman Sachin Tendulkar. When Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989, he was 16 years 205 days old. Vaibhav will become the youngest player in the history of the men’s team by representing India at the age of just 15.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s selection in the Indian team is no coincidence, rather his hard work and abundance of runs is behind it. He created a stir with his batting while playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026. Apart from all 14 league matches of the season, he played a total of 16 matches including the playoffs, in which he won the ‘Orange Cap’ and the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season by scoring the maximum 776 runs in the tournament.

Now the biggest headache for the Indian team management is going to be regarding the opening combination. In the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson opened the innings for India. Now it will be very interesting to see whether the team management maintains this winning combination, or either Abhishek or Sanju will have to sacrifice their opening position to make way for young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the playing eleven.

Apart from Vaibhav, fast bowler Prince Yadav is also all set to start his T20 International career in this series. Prince Yadav is not completely new to the Indian setup. He made his debut for India in the home ODI series played against Afghanistan in the same month i.e. June 2026 and played some matches. Now the same great performance is being expected from him in this shorter format of limited overs also.

Prince Yadav has got the ticket of the Indian T20 team due to his excellent and sharp performance in IPL 2026. This fast bowler played for Lucknow Super Giants in the last season of IPL and took part in all 14 league matches. Troubleing the batsmen with his pace and accurate line-length, Prince took a total of 16 important wickets in the tournament, after which the selectors could not ignore him.

Mumbai’s 23-year-old all-rounder Suryakumar Shedge is the third player in the race to debut in this series. In fact, Andhra Pradesh’s emerging all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy had to miss the entire tour of Ireland and England due to injury. After Nitish’s injury, the selectors took a quick decision and included Suryakumar Shedge in the Indian team squad as a backup on Tuesday, June 23.

The reason behind Suryakumar Shedge’s sudden inclusion in the Indian senior team has been his recent excellent form. While playing for ‘India A’ in the Tri-Series held in Sri Lanka, he gave an amazing all-round performance with both ball and bat. Impressed by his impactful game, the selectors have given him this golden opportunity to showcase his talent in the T20 format against Ireland.

Taking a big decision on 6 June 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new captain of the Indian T20 team. Iyer has a long and successful experience of captaining big franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in the IPL. Now, this will be his first series as T20 captain in blue jersey at the international level, where he will have the big responsibility of taking the team forward on the path to victory as well as improving the youth.
