The interest rate for general students is 4 percent, whereas girl students and disabled students get this facility at only 1 percent simple interest.

Bihar government is also encouraging students preparing for competitive examinations. Under the Chief Minister Extremely Backward Class Civil Services Incentive Scheme, lump sum assistance ranging from Rs 30 thousand to Rs 1 lakh is given to the Extremely Backward Class (EBC) candidates who succeed in the preliminary stage of competitive examinations like UPSC, BPSC, NDA, CDS and Banking.

The government has also started separate schemes for students from minority communities. Under the Chief Minister Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana, an incentive amount of Rs 10,000 is given to minority students who pass the matriculation examination in first division. At the same time, students living in recognized minority hostels also get financial assistance every month under the Minority Hostel Grant Scheme.
