Why will the IPL 2026 final be held in Ahmedabad and not in Bengaluru?
New Delhi. Indian Premier League 2026 is slowly moving towards its last stage. All the teams have played 9 or 10 out of their 14 league matches. The schedule of the league stage of the tournament was already released. The date and venue of the playoff have been announced. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is the current champion, so it was expected that the final match would be held at their home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. BCCI has announced that the final match will be played on May 31 (Sunday) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This time no playoff match will be held in Bengaluru.
Why is the final being held in Ahmedabad and not in Bengaluru?
BCCI has announced that the playoff matches of IPL 2026 will be held in Ahmedabad. Qualifier 1 will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, Dharamshala. Eliminator and Qualifier 2 will be held at Maharaja Yadvinder Singh International Stadium, New Chandigarh. In its official statement, BCCI said that the hosting of the final was earlier given to Bengaluru. But the venue had to be changed due to ‘some requirements of the local association and authorities’.
“Due to some operational and logistical reasons, the IPL 2026 playoffs will be held at three different venues this time. Bengaluru was selected to host the final. There were certain requirements from the local association and authorities. These were outside the scope of BCCI guidelines and protocols, hence the venues had to be changed and rescheduled,” the BCCI said.
What is the ticket controversy related to Karnataka MLAs?
The real reason for this change is that the Karnataka government has made free tickets mandatory for all MLAs. The first match of IPL 2026 was between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Before that, Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar had demanded five IPL tickets for every MLA. He had said that the elected representatives are VIPs and they should not stand in line for tickets.
