New Zealand won the second Test played at Kennington Oval by a huge margin of 253 runs and leveled the three-match series 1-1. The Kiwi team registered a big win by bundling out England’s innings for 209 runs in the very first session of the last day.

New Delhi. New Zealand cricket team has defeated host England by a huge margin of 253 runs in the second test match played at Kennington Oval ground. With this resounding victory, the Kiwi team has leveled the three-match Test series at 1-1. On the basis of Glenn Phillips’ century in the first innings, Henry Nicholls’ brilliant 121 runs in the second innings and fast bowler Matt Henry’s killer bowling (total 11 wickets in the match), New Zealand forced the British to surrender in their own home. The third and deciding match of the series will be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham from 25th June.
New Zealand scored 391 runs with Glenn Phillips’ century.
New Zealand, who came to bat first after winning the toss, had a bad start and lost 4 wickets for 107 runs. After this Tom Blundell (51 runs) and Darryl Mitchell (44 runs) took over the innings. But in the lower order, Glenn Phillips batted brilliantly and scored a century of 100 runs with the help of 18 fours in 135 balls. Kyle Jamieson also made an important contribution of 41 runs, due to which the Kiwi team scored a strong score of 391 runs in the first innings. Jacob Bethel took maximum 3 wickets for England.
Matt Henry’s ‘claw’, England all out for 291 in first innings
In reply, England’s first innings faltered in front of New Zealand’s accurate bowling. Except opener Emilio Gay (53 runs) and captain Joe Root (46 runs), no upper order batsman could play a big innings. In the lower order, Matthew Fisher somehow took England to 291 runs by scoring unbeaten 50 runs. New Zealand’s fast bowler Matt Henry wreaked havoc, taking 5 wickets for 80 runs, giving the Kiwi team a significant lead of 100 runs on the basis of first innings.
Henry Nicholls’ century, New Zealand set a target of 463 runs.
New Zealand displayed excellent batting in its second innings. Although captain Tom Latham (4) and Devon Conway (11) were out early, this was followed by a marathon partnership of 161 runs for the third wicket between Henry Nicholls (121 runs) and Rachin Ravindra (76 runs). Nicholls hit 16 fours in his innings. After this, Darryl Mitchell also played a quick inning of 68 runs, with the help of which New Zealand scored 362 runs in the second innings and set an impossible target of 463 runs for England to win. Joffra Archer and Matthew Fisher took 3-3 wickets for England.
Kiwi bowlers wreaked havoc in the second innings too, England collapsed for 209
England, who set out to chase the huge target of 463 runs, had a very poor start and lost 2 wickets at the score of just 13 runs. Captain Joe Root (77 runs) and Harry Brook (58 runs) tried to breathe some life into the match by adding 97 runs for the fourth wicket, but the rest of the batsmen surrendered completely to the Kiwi fast bowlers. The last 5 wickets of England fell within just 21 runs and the entire team was reduced to 209 runs.
Matt Henry took 11 wickets in the match, Jamieson got support
The real hero of this big victory of New Zealand was fast bowler Matt Henry, who showed his swing in the second innings also and took 6 wickets for just 29 runs in 18.1 overs. Including 5 wickets in the first innings, Henry took a total of 11 wickets in the match. He was well supported by Kyle Jamieson, who took 3 wickets in the second innings. William O’Rourke got 1 wicket.
