Apart from all-rounder James Coles, who bats with his right hand and bowls spin with his left hand, there is no other uncapped player in the team.

London: England has announced its squad of 17 players for the five-match T20 series against India starting from July 1. The selection committee of England men’s team has given a chance to all-rounder James Coles in the team for the first time. Jordan Cox, Sunny Baker and Saqib Mahmood were not part of the 2026 T20 World Cup squad, but now they have returned to the team. Brayden Carse and Jamie Overton will not be able to play in the team due to injury.
The team is a combination of experienced and new players
Apart from the return of three players and the entry of one new player, this team is largely familiar, which includes experienced Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid and Phil Salt as well as young players like Jacob Bethel and Rehaan Ahmed. Along with Sam Curran, Will Jacques and Liam Dawson, Bethel and Coles are also in the team as all-rounders.

Who is James Coles?
21-year-old Coles has scored 1373 runs in 61 T20 innings at an average of 28.60 and strike rate of 146.37 and has seven half-centuries to his name. Coles, who made his first-class debut for Sussex at the age of 16 years and 157 days, has also taken 53 wickets at an average of 26.94 and an economy of 8.27, which includes taking four wickets in an innings three times. England men’s team chief selector Marcus North said:
James Coles is an exciting player and he has achieved this position through his hard work. He got a place in the team after his performance in England Lions and T20 events at home and abroad in the last 12 months. We have selected a large squad keeping in mind that this series will start immediately after the Test series against New Zealand, which will give us flexibility.
