Effect of heat wave in Delhi, doctors told preventive measures, hospital also ready amid yellow alert.

The capital Delhi is in the grip of severe heat and heat wave these days. In view of the situation, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert and advised people to remain alert. The continuously increasing temperature has affected the normal life and has also increased the risk to health.

Increasing effect of heat wave increases concern

The effect of heat wave is clearly visible in Delhi for the last several days. It has become difficult to go out due to strong sunlight and hot winds. Experts say that during this time one should avoid going out without essential work, because staying in the sun for a long time increases the risk of heat stroke.

Heat stroke can become fatal

According to doctors, heat stroke is a very serious condition, in which if timely treatment is not received, the risk of death is very high. According to statistics, the mortality rate in such cases can reach 60 to 80 percent. Keeping this danger in mind, hospitals have already started preparations.

Special ward ready in RML Hospital

This year too, a separate ward for heat stroke patients has been started in Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The responsibility of this ward has been given to Dr. Ajay Chauhan. Special arrangements have been made here for first aid so that patients can get immediate relief.

Initial treatment is done with ice and water.

Two beds have been reserved for heat stroke patients in the ward. Besides, arrangements for cold water and ice have been made in the big tub. As soon as the patient arrives, his body temperature is reduced by putting him in cold water. After this, he is kept on the bed and further treatment is started. When the condition becomes stable, the patient is shifted to the emergency ward. At present, no patient has reached here yet this year.

Doctors say that heat stroke affects laborers and people working outside the most. Such people need to take special care. One should avoid going out between 11 am to 5 pm. If it is necessary to go out, take rest in the shade in between and keep drinking water continuously.

Prevention is the most effective solution

Health experts advise that it is very important to keep the body hydrated. Keep a water bottle with you while leaving the house. Wear light clothes and keep your head covered. It is also important to take rest every now and then so that the body temperature remains balanced.

Be alert if these symptoms appear

Early signs of heat stroke include overheating, vomiting, diarrhea and dizziness. If such symptoms appear, efforts should be made to cool the patient immediately. Pour water below the neck and take him to the hospital without any delay. Life can be saved by getting timely treatment. According to Dr. Ajay Chauhan, in the year 2024, 75 patients were admitted in this ward, out of which 27 died. These figures show how dangerous taking heat stroke lightly can prove to be.
