New Delhi. Kolkata Knight Riders included Cameron Green in the team by spending like water in the auction for IPL 2026, but this Australian all-rounder has disappointed in the very first match of the season. This Australian all-rounder managed to score only 18 runs in the team's opening match against Mumbai Indians. Green, who came at number three after Finn Allen's dismissal, was expected to bat stormily, but Shardul Thakur trapped him by bowling a short ball. Green was given Rs 25.20 crore to KKR, making him the most expensive player in the IPL 2026 auction.

After losing the toss, Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane gave a stormy start to KKR and added 69 runs in 5.2 overs for the first wicket. However, Allen was out after playing a quick inning of 37 runs. After this Cameron Green came to the crease. Green opened the account with a single and hit a skyscraper six in the next over, which seemed like he was going to show the strength of his arms, but after this the 25 crore batsman could hit only one four and was out. Shardul bowled the fifth ball of the ninth over of the innings short and slow, which was caught while trying to send it across the boundary. Sherfane Rutherford took his catch. If Green had timed this ball right, he could have got a six. He could score only 18 runs in 10 balls with the help of one four and one six.

Cameron Green was out cheaply.

Rahane hit a stormy fifty
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane created a stir with his stormy batting at Wankhede Stadium. Rahane played an important role in giving the team a strong start by scoring fifty in just 27 balls. Rahane thrashed the bowlers in the powerplay and hit fours and sixes. However, after completing the half-century, he was seen playing cautiously. Rahane's innings ended on 67 runs, when he was caught by Shardul Thakur at the hands of Hardik Pandya. Rahane faced 40 balls. He hit three fours and 5 sixes.

Shardul was seen fighting alone
While bowling for Mumbai Indians, Shardul Thakur was seen single-handedly defeating the KKR batsmen. Bowlers like captain Hardik Pandya and Trent Boult were not successful in leaving their mark in this match. Even though Pandya got one wicket, he did not look that effective. Shardul Thakur took three wickets. He dismissed Ajinkya Rahane (67), Finn Allen (37) and Cameron Green (18). Jasprit Bumrah, Boult, Mayank Markande and Allah Ghazanfar returned without wickets. KKR scored 220 at the loss of four wickets. Vice-captain Rinku Singh scored unbeaten 33 and Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 51 runs in 29 balls.
